Jennette McCurdy’s Memoir Reveals Abusive Childhood and Disordered Eating

– Jennette McCurdy, who starred in the Nickelodeon show iCarly as a teenager, has opened up about the emotional and physical abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother Debra in her new memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died”.

– In the book, McCurdy reveals that her mother “explicitly told her how to engage in disordered eating” in order to delay her puberty and continue landing child roles to support the family financially.

– McCurdy, now 30, says she lived in denial about her mother’s actions, believing it was her mother’s way of helping her and her career. However, in retrospect and with the help of therapy, she recognizes it as “obvious abuse”.

– When a doctor once suggested McCurdy might have an eating disorder, the idea was vehemently denied by both McCurdy and her mother at the time.

– McCurdy’s mother, Debra, died of breast cancer in 2013. The memoir provides a scathing account of the abusive relationship McCurdy endured with her mother since childhood.
